WORK IN CAMERON ALL YEAR ROUND

Cameron County is the southernmost county in the great state of Texas. It is also a border county as it is separated from Mexico by the Rio Grande River.

The four major cities/towns that makeup Cameron County are Brownsville (the southernmost city on the lower tip of Texas), Harlingen, Port Isabel, and South Padre Island. Other cities/towns within Cameron County include La Feria, Los Fresnos, Palm Valley, Rio Hondo, San Benito, Bayview, Combes, Indian Lake, Laguna Vista, Los Indios, Primera, Rancho Viejo, and Santa Rosa.

In 2014, Space-X acquired additional land off the Gulf Coast near Boca Chica and are underway in the construction of the 'SpaceX South Texas Launch Site'; a private spaceport to support Space-X's Mars colonization mission. They are expected to employ up to 150 full-time employees and contractors by 2019. This could be an incredible volunteer/work opportunity for those qualified in the areas of mathematics, physics, sciences, space travel/exploration, etc.

Those interested in the areas of tourism, hospitality/service, social work, medical, education, and language skills (English-Spanish), will find Cameron County - and the Rio Grande Valley as a whole - a great place to find veritable opportunities for volunteer work AND employment.

Those interested in the area(s) of Marine Biology and Wildlife Conservation will want to head to South Padre Island. SPI's Birding and Nature Center is home to a 5-story watchtower with views of migrating birds. SPI's Dolphin Research & Sealife Nature Center offers boat tours and touch tanks. Finally, SPI's Sea Turtle Inc. operates as a rescue and rehabilitation center.

Anyone interested in a university-level education will find the opportunity at a University of Texas system school; the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, which is located in the city of Brownsville.
