James Farner is a working traveller from Leeds, England.
He started travelling in May 2015 and earns a living through sales of his books, including the Made in Yorkshire series and the War Years series. He specialises in historical fiction and also operates as an occasional freelance writer.
His experience in freelance writing stretches back to when he was 17. He began writing professionally prior to receiving his A-level results and made a decision not to go to university. It was a move that wasn’t welcomed by his parents. Over the next four years, he built a writing business and operated a small book publishing company.
In 2015, he decided to leave the United Kingdom and ply his trade on the road.
I decided to travel because I realised I hadn’t seen anything of the world,” says James.” I wanted to experience something different and inspire myself. It was a difficult move to make because not only did I have to guarantee enough to live on I didn’t have any safety net to fall back on.”
As of this writing, he has travelled across Europe and is currently residing in Bucharest. During the last year he has spent an extended period of time living and working in Poland, Macedonia, and Turkey.
I found Working Traveller whilst I was living in Bucharest. It immediately appealed to me because it allows me to reach a range of hosts all wanting something different. As well as offering me further opportunities to continue to earn a living, it gives me a chance to extend my skill base, whilst helping people from all over the world.”
