My skills

I am passionate about policy and advocacy in order to affect change and human rights both on a local and international level.

In both my academic pursuits and extracurricular activities, I have learned to think critically about the broader historical, political, and social systems that influence human rights and conflict resolution on an international scale through my concentration of International Norms, Security and Cooperation.

Not only have I explored international studies academically, but I have also experienced it firsthand through my travels abroad.  I first discovered my passion for human rights on a trip to Thailand at the age of 15 after living with Thai peers from rural backgrounds seeking access to education, as well as interacting with Burmese refugees and learning about the injustices they endured.  I returned to Thailand and Cambodia the following summer to continue this exploration, and the next summer, I studied in Rwanda where I explored development through NGOs and had a focused inquiry on the 1994 genocide, including the international community’s role in the conflict and modern effects.   I traveled through the professional student exchange program, AIESEC, to Colombia, where I participated in a project with children from unstable homes with the goal of fostering post-conflict peace and confidence.  I also worked abroad at the headquarters of a humanitarian aid organization, working under communications and finance.

In the , I was an intern at Heartland Alliance within their Refugee & Immigrant Community Services department in their offices of Employment, as well as Youth and Family Services.  While there, I interviewed, acclimated, and prepared resumes and employment applications for newly arrived refugees and created and implemented programming for a six-week summer program for refugee youth ages 9-17.
