My work highlights the streets, characters and cultures, deep within local and international communities, documenting vivid and emotive expressions of humanity. Working with individuals, I utilize conversation, sunlight, shapes and shadows; sharing smiles to capture soulful expressive portraits.

Nemá Etebar is a Persian-American photojournalist and streetphotographer currently based in San Francisco & New York City with a decade of international experience in documenting vibrant characters, subcultures, and societies. Etebar focuses on projects that promote awareness, unity, and solidarity. As a community organizer, he is dedicated to cultivating and inspiring youth in disadvantaged communities. Using photography as art therapy, he is able to dissolve barriers and build community. His work and initiatives have been featured in HYCIDE Magazine, SNAX Magazine, JPG Magazine and TV9 News(India).
As the co-founder of PhotoPHILanthropy, Nemá Etebar created a non-profit organization dedicated to the betterment of Philadelphia's impoverished neighborhoods and schools. Working with over 100 other community members, he was hired as the lead artist and instructor on three Philadelphia Mural Arts projects: “Cops and Kids,” “Septa Cops and Kids,” and "Women's Cops and Kids."
Etebar spent over a year between India and East Africa where he has worked with several NGOs and other local organizations teaching photography and videography. While in India, he worked as a journalist for TV9 News, highlighting issues such as women's rights, children's health, safety and education. While in India, he was commissioned by VOICE4GIRLS, a project of the Nike Foundation's Girl Effect program.
During his travels through East Africa, Etebar worked on freelance assignments for stateside publications and humanitarian organizations. This allowed him to train his lens on issues ranging from genocide survivors and campaigns for albinism to the daily life of Rwanda tea farmers.
