My skills

I am going into my second year studying Law LLB at the University of Birmingham. I spent last summer in the USA working as a Lifeguard in a Girl Scout Summer Camp, this required me to be responsible for overseeing the waterfront and leading activities whilst looking after large troops of Girl Scouts (aged 6 to 12). I also took on the role of camp counselor during 'overnights', in which the girls would sleep at camp in tents, after enjoying traditional camp activities such as camp fires.

EXPERIENCE

October 2015 to July 2016: Worked as a barista at ‘The Brew’ coffee shop in Folkestone. My responsibilities included: opening and closing the shop, taking orders, processing returns, preparing drinks and food, checking and displaying stock, ensuring equipment is clean, meeting consistent food standards and actively resolving checklist issues.

August 2015 to March 2017: Worked as a volunteer radio presenter at Folkestone Academy FM , where I write and present local news on a weekly basis.

July 2016 – December 2017: Sales Assistant at Debenhams. My role required me to serve and advise customers on products they wish to buy, service the tills, cash up at the end of each working day and work productively in a large team to ensure our department met sale targets.

December 2017 - April 2018: Worked as a ho assistant in the Italian Dolomites with the ski company Inghams. My role involved serving and attending to guests’ needs, actively solving any problems and ensuring the best quality holiday was provided. This included maintaining a high quality of cleanliness throughout the ho, serving food and wine in the restaurant and working as a united team.

May 2018 - August 2018: Worked as a lifeguard in America at Camp Silverbrook; which is part of Girl Scouts Wisconsin South East. The camp focused on ensuring campers left as young women of ‘Courage, Confidence and Character’ and utilised the acronym ‘’ (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-Taker, Leader) to structure camp activities. My role involved overseeing the water front and teaching activities such as kayaking, snorkelling, canoeing and fishing, as well as leading camp fires, games and treks across the camp.

October 2018 – January 2019: Christmas temp sales assistant at Build-A-Bear. My role was to serve and advise customers, stuff bears and perform the ‘heart ritual’ with children when making their bears to create a fun and exciting memory for them and their parents.

June 2019 – September 2019: Over the summer, I worked as a waitress and bartender at The Grand Ho in Folkestone. My responsibilities included taking orders, opening and cleaning the bar, cashing the tills at the end of each working day and ensuring optimal guest satisfaction.

INTERNSHIPS

Summer 2015 & 2016: Interned at the Folkestone Herald during my summer holidays. I wrote several articles which were published in the weekly edition, one of which achieved the most “hits” on the online version of the newspaper.

December 2015: During my school holidays I attended a work placement at Rufus Leonard Limited, a design and advertising agency in London who represents businesses such as Pizza Express, the AA and Lloyds Bank. My internship was based in the Media Department of the agency, where I researched potential clients by looking into the social media and advertising side of a variety of companies; including Odeon Cinemas, who were considering their redesign at the time.

August 2016: I was involved in a mini-pupillage programme at Carmelite Chambers, a London set of Barristers’ Chambers. The set has a national reputation specialising in all areas of criminal law, with an emphasis on serious fraud and financial crime. I heard the cases the barristers I was observing were advising on and got a unique insight into how the judiciary works.

April 2018 – May 2018: Worked as an assistant for the Granola Brand: Troo Granola. Involved collecting data of those interested in the brand, building their social media presence and travelling to different food markets and events.
