Personal statement
I am originally from the South of England, but I am currently in Australia on a working holiday visa for one year from September 2015. I am looking for temporary or casual work.
In the UK I am a teacher trained in teaching science at secondary school (ages 11-18), which I have been doing for 7 years. Prior to that I worked in retail for just over 4 years. Teaching has allowed me to develop many different skills such as excellent communication. Some of these skills are detailed below.
My most recent job was an administration role booking customers for Shark Dive Xtreme.
I really enjoy working with teenagers and I am passionate about Science, in particular Biology which is my specialism. I have also developed a massive interest in the underwater world since learning to scuba dive a few years ago.
In my spare time I also enjoy reading, watching movies, knitting and try to keep fit through swimming and yoga.
Experience and skills
As mentioned above, there are many transferable skills that I have developed whilst teaching.
Working in schools and retail means that you are working as part of a large and varied team working to achieve a goal. In the last year I have taken some responsibility within one of these teams, instructing other members of the team, organising events, and providing data on targets and achievement. This required a high level of organisation to complete my normal duties and the extra work from the coordinator role.
As a teacher you work in a pressured environment with constant deadlines and targets. There are often multiple deadlines that have to be met within very specific time frames. This requires a high level of organisation and planning to make sure that everything is achieved for each class that you teach.
As a teacher you communicate with a wide range of people on a daily basis, whether students, colleagues, or parents. Teaching requires you to take difficult concepts and break them down into pieces and explain them to a range of people, and then put the pieces back together so that the whole concept can be understood.

About Me
I'm a biologist at heart and love nature and learning about animals and the world. I'm also an avid scuba diver, and hoping to get my divemaster qualification next year.
I'm a bit older than your average backpacker being past the 30 point (!) but I'm generally a pretty easy going and laid back person and get on with most people without any problem.
I love reading and will give most things a go, I have set myself a challenge to read 52 books this year and I'm more or less on track!
I've been in Australia for just over 9 months, and I'm just looking for a change to Sydney before I have to leave.
