While I attended school, I was a volunteer for my local Amnesty International group in which I helped develop, organise, and supervise fund-raising events. This also involved a short trip to Ghana where I volunteered as a Math teacher to local children between the ages of 10 and 12. I have worked as a babysitter/nanny for 2 years and completed some work experience as a nursery assistant. I am very happy and comfortable to teach and play with young children.
I later graduated with a Master's of Physics in Astrophysics, achieving a 2:1. During university, I was a part of the local beach clean group, Coast Care, attending beach cleans every weekend. I also supported the managers of the group to develop ideas for community involvement in the beach cleans, as well as ideas to encourage the community to reduce litter and increase their awareness of the dangers of plastic waste.
I have lived independently for 12 years now, so I have plenty of experience with domestic duties as well as DIY jobs! These include renovation projects, cooking, cleaning, tidying, general housework and upkeep, like sorting bills and any necessary maintenance work. At home, I grow my own vegetables, inspired by my grandparents who have grown their own food for more than 20 years, so I have first-hand experience with hands-on gardening. Growing my own veg also quickly encouraged my love for cooking healthy, conscious living.
I have completed training as a care worker for elderly, however, due to a change in my circumstances, I was unable to gain much work experience in this field. I believe it is important to help our older generations with their daily life and routines, not only to maintain their dignity in their later years, but also to provide them with companionship.
I have plenty of other experience in the retail and hospitality industries, having worked as a sales assistant, waitress, bartender, and assistant chef.
Quite a few of my modules at university involved coding, programming, and creating graphics, as well as research. I have also worked in the Aerospace industry as a Technical Author, and I currently freelance as an editor/proof-reader of scientific documentation and Physics research papers. Therefore, I am very familiar with computers and the internet - I feel more than capable in teaching and helping others gain confidence in using these technologies!
From my experience, I have gained an excellent skill set including time management, communication, interpersonal/social, problem-solving, ability to work well with and without pressure, computer literacy, and writing skills. I think of myself as an honest, open-minded, kind, and approachable individual who is sensitive to others' needs and requirements.
