My skills
Research Skills: Field skills include the design and implementation of a micro and macroplastic survey. Electrofishing of freshwater and Seine netting of both freshwater and marine environments.
Laboratory skills: Identification and biomassing of benthic marine invertebrates from the East English Channel. Floating of microplastics in a super saline solution and use of both a Fluorescent microscope and a Scanning Electron Microscope. Culture of Nannochloropsis oculata (N. oculata) under differing Vitamin C concentrations to determine optimum growth rates. Titration, Flame Photometry, ELIZA and Heamocritic blood sampling.
Analytical/IT skills: Analysis of both biological (N. oculata) and artificial (microplastic) datasets using Minitab statistical packages. Experienced user of Microsoft Office 2016 (Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel and Word) and the Internet.
Supervisory skills: Supervision of server assistants whilst at T. G. I. Friday’s. Along with the training of new staff members.
Communication skills: Both poster and PowerPoint based presentations given to both academics and peers, written reports (university allocated assignments).

Personal Statement
I am currently a student at the University of Portsmouth Studying for a Bachelors Degree of Science in Marine Biology and undertaking a dissertation project looking at the micro and macroplastic refresh rates in Portsmouth beaches. I am eager to build on and broaden my analytical lab skills along with gaining insight into possibly teaching students later in my career.
